If you’re a cat lover like me, visiting a cat café is always a good idea—especially when you can enjoy a cup of coffee while spending time with adorable cats! 🐱☕

Since I’ve been exploring Phnom Penh, I discovered that there are several places where you can meet cats, relax, and enjoy some food or drinks at the same time. So, I decided to visit three cat cafés around the city and see which one would become my favorite.

In this blog, I’m sharing my personal experience at three cat cafés in Phnom Penh: Chhma Café, Café J.Tor, and Project Cat House. Each place has its own atmosphere, different cats, and something special to offer.

After visiting all three, I ranked them based on my own experience—from my favorite to the one I enjoyed the least.

🥇 1. Chhma Café — My Favorite Cat Café in Phnom Penh

Located near Phnom Penh Riverside, Chhma Café was my favorite out of the three cat cafés I visited.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll already get a little taste of the café’s theme. The entrance area has lots of cute cat souvenirs and even some cat food available to purchase. So if you’re a cat lover, it’s quite hard not to stop and look around before heading inside!

The entrance ticket costs $3.95 USD, and the price includes a pair of socks, which you need to wear inside the cat area. I actually thought this was convenient because you don’t need to bring your own socks.

They also offer drinks at the café, and you can get 20% off your drink when you purchase the entrance ticket.

🧦 Before Meeting the Cats

Before going upstairs, there are a few things to prepare.

The toilet is located on the first floor, and there is also a shoe rack where you can leave your shoes. They provide lockers as well, so you can safely keep your belongings while spending time with the cats.

As you walk up to the second floor, you’ll see the café’s rules displayed on the wall. These are the rules you need to follow while interacting with the cats, which I think is important because it helps keep the environment comfortable and safe for both the cats and visitors.

🐈 Around 20 Cats!

And then comes the best part—the cats!

Chhma Café has around 20 cats, so there are plenty of furry friends to meet. 🐱💕 There are also different types of cat breeds, which makes the experience even more interesting if you enjoy learning about cats.

What I really liked about Chhma Café was that the space felt quite spacious, so it didn’t feel too crowded even with so many cats around.

The cats were also friendly, and I really enjoyed spending time with them. Some were happy to interact with visitors, while others were simply relaxing and doing their own thing—which, honestly, is very cat-like! 😂

❤️ Why Chhma Café Is My Favorite

Out of the three cat cafés I visited in Phnom Penh, Chhma Café was my favorite because of the combination of the spacious environment, variety of cats, friendly atmosphere, and overall experience.

If you’re a cat lover, I think this is definitely a place worth adding to your Phnom Penh itinerary. And even before you meet the cats, the cute souvenirs at the entrance already make you feel like you’ve stepped into a little cat-lover’s paradise! 🐾

🥈 2. Café J.Tor — A Cozy Spot with Playful Cats

🕘 Opening hours: Daily, 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

🎟️ Entrance: Free — just purchase a drink

My second favorite cat café in Phnom Penh is Café J.Tor, located in the Toul Tom Poung area.

Unlike Chhma Café, Café J.Tor is a little smaller and less spacious. However, they have a second floorthat offers a more private and cozy space, which I think is nice if you prefer a quieter atmosphere.

☕ Matcha, Cacao & Cats

The café serves both food and drinks, and one of my personal favorites here was their matcha. I also really enjoyed their cacao series. So if you’re a matcha or cacao lover, this is definitely something I would recommend trying.

The best part is that you don’t have to pay an entrance fee. Entry is free as long as you purchase a drink. They also sell cat treats, so you can buy some and feed the cats while you’re there.

The owner was also very friendly, which made the experience feel even more welcoming.

🐈 Young & Playful Cats

Café J.Tor doesn’t have as many cats as Chhma Café, but the cats here are relatively young and playful.

You can expect to see them running around, playing and exploring their surroundings. They definitely have plenty of energy!

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that some of the cats can be a little aggressive, so it’s better to interact with them gently and pay attention to their behavior.

🐾 More Than Just a Cat Café

Another thing I really liked about Café J.Tor is that they support local homemade cat and dog clothing.

You can actually buy the handmade pet clothes directly at the café. I thought this was a lovely touch because you’re not only visiting a cat café but also supporting local makers and small businesses.

 Why I Ranked It #2

Café J.Tor was definitely one of my favorite places, but I ranked it second mainly because of the opening hours.

The café closes at 7:00 PM, which means you can’t really visit after dinner if you’re planning a night out in Phnom Penh. Compared with Chhma Café, which stays open until 9:00 PM, I found Chhma a little more convenient for my schedule.

Still, if you’re in Toul Tom Poung during the day, Café J.Tor is definitely worth checking out—especially if you love matcha, cacao, and playful young cats! 🐱🍵

🥉 3. Project Cat House — Cats & Coffee in One Place

📍 Location: Inside Dawn Coffee 271, Phnom Penh

☕ Dawn Coffee opening hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

🐈 Project Cat House: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

🎟️ Entrance: Free

My third choice is Project Cat House, located inside Dawn Coffee 271.

What makes this place a little different from the other two is that the cat house is located inside a coffee shop. You can enjoy your coffee while watching the cats through the windows, so you don’t necessarily have to spend all your time inside the cat area.

🐱 A Smaller Cat Space

Compared with Chhma Café and Café J.Tor, Project Cat House has fewer cats. The cat area and café are also on one floor, so the space feels more compact.

The cats weren’t quite as friendly as the ones I met at the first two cafés. However, some of them were still happy to play and interact with me.

The place itself was clean and comfortable, which I appreciated.

☕ Coffee With a View

One thing I like about Project Cat House is that you don’t need to pay an entrance fee to see the cats.

If you don’t feel like going into the cat area—or if you’re simply looking for a relaxing coffee break—you can stay in the café and watch the cats through the windows while enjoying your drink.

I think this is a nice option for people who want to see cats but don’t necessarily want a full cat-café experience.

⚠️ A Tip: Avoid the Weekend

If you are planning to visit, my suggestion is to avoid going on the weekend, especially if you want to spend some quiet time with the cats.

When I visited on the weekend, there were quite a lot of children. Because of the crowd, I wasn’t really able to enjoy playing with the cats as much as I wanted.

So, if you have the choice, I would recommend visiting on a weekday when it may be easier to relax and interact with the cats.

❤️ Why I Ranked It #3

Project Cat House was my third choice mainly because of the limited opening hours of the cat areaand the overall experience compared with the other two cafés.

The cat house closes for a break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM and closes for the day at 5:00 PM, so there isn’t much opportunity to visit in the evening.

However, I still think it’s worth checking out if you’re already in the area or looking for a casual coffee spot where you can watch some cats.

For me, the biggest advantage is that you can enjoy your coffee while watching the cats, without paying an entrance fee. 🐱☕

🐾 Final Thoughts

After visiting these three cat cafés in Phnom Penh, I can say that each one has its own charm.

🥇 Chhma Café is my overall favorite, especially because of the spacious environment, the variety of cats, and how friendly they were. The longer opening hours are also a big plus if you want to visit in the evening.

🥈 Café J.Tor comes in second for me. I really enjoyed their matcha and cacao drinks, and the young, playful cats made the experience fun. I also loved that they support local handmade pet clothing. My only downside is that they close at 7 PM.

🥉 Project Cat House takes third place. It has fewer cats and the cats were a little less friendly, but the place was clean and I liked being able to enjoy my coffee while watching the cats through the windows. If you visit, I would recommend going on a weekday rather than the weekend.

Overall, if you’re a cat lover visiting Phnom Penh, I think all three places are worth checking out. Your favorite might even be different from mine—it really depends on whether you’re looking for lots of cats, a cozy atmosphere, good drinks, or simply a relaxing place to spend some time with furry friends.

For me, though, Chhma Café definitely wins the title of my favorite cat café in Phnom Penh! 🐱❤️
